Zabihah app makes it easy to find local mosques and halal eateries

By Maham Haq –

It can sometimes be a struggle to find a halal place to eat or a place to pray nearby. Well, there’s an app for that. Zabihah is the first and largest guide to restaurants that serve zabihah meat, as well as mosques and zabihah meat markets. It features more than 20,000 restaurants, markets and mosques, submitted by thousands of members since 1999. The app became available to users for a small fee in 2009 and has been free since 2012. Hundreds of new listings and reviews are added each week. In partnership with more than 2,000 halal restaurants, Zabihah is able to offer coupons, vouchers and special offers for halal dining.

Sabah Baig, a resident of California, is a soon to be graduating food scientist, completing a summer internship in Arizona at Ehrmann Dairy, and is a huge supporter of Zabihah. Coming to Arizona for the first time and without family in the area, she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to find halal places to eat, but Zabihah came to her rescue.

“I found multiple restaurants where I was comfortable enough to eat such as Curry Corner in Tempe, and even found a place to pray! Since I was here for Ramadan too, I wanted to be able to go to the masjid and Zabihah helped me find the Islamic Center of the East Valley. After reviewing the ratings, I felt comfortable enough to go to the masjid and enjoy breaking my fasts and doing Qiyams with the fellow Muslims,” said Baig. “I highly recommend the app. It’s easy to use, and makes life so much easier.”, the website that spawned the app, was created by Shahed Amanullah in 1999 who individually added 200 restaurants himself. Now, anyone can add a restaurant. Users can even rate the restaurants and leave reviews to help discerning eaters make their decision.

The app is used across the globe in North America, UK/Ireland and Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Africa and more.
